Eligibility Requirements:   Debate is a co-curricular activity; contest participation is required.  Eligibility standards are detailed in the MSHSAA Speech, Debate and Drama Manual.

Time Commitment:  Class time Monday through Friday.  Competition participation obligations depend on course requirements and tournament schedules.  Generally, Friday after school between 2:45pm and 10:30pm, and Saturday from 6am to 9pm, though each student will have different commitments depending on their competition event.

Activity Time Period:  Full Year.  Competition season runs from October through April.

Location:  Room 206 and Various Competition sites.

Procedures for Joining:  Students enroll in the course and learn fundamental and advanced persuasive and presentation techniques.  They apply the learning in competitions throughout the season on Fridays and Saturdays.

Description:   Students learn and apply the principles of advanced communication and argumentation.  Through contest participation, students earn points toward membership in the National Forensic League (NFL).  The NFL is a nationally recognized honor society for students who work and excel in speech, debate and drama competitions.  Scholarship opportunities are available to students.
